Michael Welch Golf Coaching

Michael began playing competitive golf at the age of four and went on to establish a prolific career as a junior amateur. He remains the Country’s best ever junior when in one glorious season back in 1990 and at the age of 17, he lifted the British, European and World Boys’ Championship titles. Speaking about Michael’s success as a junior, contemporary Lee Westwood said, “He was definitely the one to beat at that age and I never got close. Nobody did.”

At the age of 22, Michael turned professional and his twelve-year playing career included appearances on the European, Challenge, Asian and African Tours. He also notched up an impressive 18th place in The British Open at Lytham in 1996.

Following his playing career, Michael chose to pursue his love of golf by concentrating on player coaching including supporting Hawkstone Park members of all ages and abilities.

His coaching philosophy is all about providing a pathway to golfing success. Whether he’s working with a tour professional, elite player, club golfer or someone looking to start playing the game, his plan is to work with players to make the most of their ability and ensure they become the best player they can possibly be.

Michael’s combined 30-year experience as a tour professional and coach brings a unique insight to the golfers he coaches. He also strives to make his coaching sessions an enjoyable learning experience too.

As well as using the club’s coaching facilities, Michael also has his own indoor coaching studio where he uses GC Quad software with Foresight Simulator. Irrespective of what level a golfer plays at, this quickly identifies a player’s strengths and weaknesses through in-depth swing analysis. This helps to target areas of development and ultimately speed-ups finding the right solution for improving your game. The studio also has a five-metre putting green.
