THIRD JUNIOR OPEN TO BE HOSTED BY EUROPEAN TOUR PRO ASHLEY CHESTERS

Following the success of the second Junior Open held at Hawkstone Park in 2021, European Tour Pro Ashley Chesters has announced he will be supporting a third event this summer.

To be staged on Monday 25th July on the club’s Championship Course, the tournament is open to junior golfers with an EGU handicap, maximum 28 for boys and maximum 36 for girls, and is expected to attract many entries following the sell-out event last year. Entry costs £25 and includes a meal and prize presentation.

Competition and Results

On the 18th July, Hawkstone Park Golf Club Junior Section played their Club Championship from the white tees of the Championship Course.
The best gross score secures the Championship and there is also a best nett prize.

They all played well in the testing wet conditions and the best gross was 78 shot by Tom Welch who won his second Junior Championship, defending last year’s win.

The best nett went to Zach Banks who at the age of 12 plays off a handicap of 10, with 72 and third was Ben Carr who on his 13th birthday scored a net 75.

Thank you to the Junior Organizer Ian Balmforth and to European Tour Player Ashley Chesters for being supportive and donating the prizes.

Well played to all the Juniors with some fabulous golf and great camaraderie they are the future of the Club.

Results:
Junior Club Champion Tom Welch gross 78
Zach Banks 82-10=72 best net
Tom Welch 78-4=74
Ben Carr 103-28=75

MATCHES

Matches organised by the County Junior section certainly are plentiful and varied. For more details see www.shugc.com. There is also an opportunity to play in the County handicap league, with each club fielding a team of 4 players.

COMPETITIONS

We have an active Junior section at Hawkstone, giving both boys and girls the opportunity to learn and improve their golfing ability. Each month the Junior section play a monthly stableford and monthly medal; there is also the opportunity to play in the Mens and Ladies monthly competitions. Trophy competitions are played at the weekend, at a time to suit all players. Our Honours Board Trophies are preseted at the Club's Annual Prize Presentation evening at the end of November.

Younger players (both U11 and girls U13) can take part in the popular County Pee Wee Tour playing at courses throughout the County during July and August.

Hawkstone Park also hold a Junior Open event, usually in August, endorsed by our very own European Tour player Ashley Chesters.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Congratulations to Max Balmforth on winning The Shropshire Schools County Championship at Arscott in May 2019. Max then accompanied Tom Welch in representing the County in a friendly match vs Nottinghamshire.

Tom Welch also has represented the County at Llanymynech Golf Club and Max and Finn Bowdler have also played for the County in an U14 match at Market Drayton.

Congratulations also to Ben Carr who played in the Mens friendly match at Church Stretton; he partnered his dad, Gary, to win 9 and 7 in their match.
